MC2 continues to be our best selling wine. This year’s vintage opens up with notes of fresh cut pine, nutmeg, and black fruit on the nose with a hint of aged tobacco. On the palate the lush mouth-feel and dusty tannins dissolve into ripe berries and plums with discernible blackberry and bay leaf on the finish. Pair this extremely versatile wine with dark meat fowl or game with fruit sauces, burgers on the grill, or glazed plums with caramel sauce.

Overall, the 2016 growing season was defined by the lack of summer rainfall and drought-like conditions which resulted in slightly lower yields of complex fruit suitable for extraordinary winemaking. In the early part of the growing season Old Man Winter gave us a couple of blasts that pushed bud-break back about a week later than desired and damaged some of the early buds, but the persistently dry conditions leveled the playing field during flowering. Although 2016 was one of the warmest growing seasons on record it was not as hot as the famed 2012 growing season resulting in smaller clusters with less intense phenolics, but balanced acidity and lower sugars in the grapes. With the lack of rain throughout July and August our young vines suffered, forcing us to drop some fruit, while the established vines on the Davis and Damiani fields dug deep into the nutrient rich soil, producing fruit of exceptional quality.
