WinemakingBlend: 100% Riesling
Tasting Notes & Food Pairing
Made only in the best growing seasons when natural grape sugars are intensely concentrated this super balanced Riesling holds the hallmarks of quality Finger Lakes fruit in its robust bouquet. On the palate notes of candied green apples mingle with ripe pineapple for a long honeyed finish. Pair this wine with spicer foods such as curry, or bring this wine along on your picnic and serve with cold plates of dried sausages, bold cheeses, smoked fish, and sweet onion slices.

Overall, the 2016 growing season was defined by the lack of summer rainfall and drought-like conditions which resulted in slightly lower yields of complex fruit suitable for extraordinary winemaking. In the early part of the growing season Old Man Winter gave us a couple of blasts that pushed bud-break back about a week later than desired and damaged some of the early buds, but the persistently dry conditions leveled the playing field during flowering. Although 2016 was one of the warmest growing seasons on record it was not as hot as the famed 2012 growing season resulting in smaller clusters with less intense phenolics, but balanced acidity and lower sugars in the grapes. With the lack of rain throughout July and August our young vines suffered, forcing us to drop some fruit, while the established vines on the Davis and Damiani fields dug deep into the nutrient rich soil, producing fruit of exceptional quality.
