Tasting Notes & Food Pairing
The Sauvignon Blanc grape is rarely found in the Finger Lakes. At the suggestion of DWC owner/grape grower Phil Davis’ wife Paula, Damiani planted a small parcel on the Davis farm. That tiny block is now named after Paula, our own Little Lotus Flower. This wine, fermented in stainless steel tanks, and then transferred to oak barrels for finishing, presents aromatics of ripe grapefruits and summer day lilies. On the palate it is refreshing, with good weight and mineral overtones, and a lingering citrus finish reminiscent of Meyer lemons. Serve this wine with yellow beat salad garnished with goat cheese, freshwater fish with lemon beurre blanc, or seared sea scallops.
Vintage NotesYet again, the Finger Lakes experienced another very harsh winter in 2015. Two harsh winters in a row caused lots of bud death and vine damage, but as always, lower yields result in improved fruit quality. In spite of the harsh winter we were graced with a growing season that started out cool and wet but finished with a healthy showing of sun and heat. Harvest kicked off at the usual time with lots of sun and was temperate with little rain. All in all it was a good harvest and though yields were down between 20-40% on nearly every varietal the result was exceptional quality, with complex fruit across the board. Expect lush, rich, voluptuous wines from this vintage!
